Meet Bangerooo:
This mysterious and talented digital artist based in Toronto goes by the name of Bangerooo!
♦
Bangerooo, however, didn’t always intend on making a living as an artist- but her raw talent, her eye for color, her determination along with a loyal following all gave her the ingredients she needed to make a splash in the online world of art!
♦
This mysterious artist gives us a behind the scenes scoop on her journey as an artist.
1.) Emmy: How long have you been doing this type of art?
Bangerooo: I’m completely self-taught. I’ve been making digital art for just over 2 years!
2.) Emmy: Words I would describe your art are psychedelic, eye-catching, alternative, fun and futuristic! I love it! What has inspired you the most with these themes?
Bangerooo: I draw a lot of inspiration from the great unknown: SPACE! Alien life has always captivated me, and often I find myself day-dreaming about all of the possibilities that life could manifest in the endless universe. For me, the aliens I create represent anyone who questions their reality or feels detached from everyday life. In a sense, I like to create art based off of concepts that inspire the viewer to think and question the boundaries of society.
3.) Emmy: You often incorporate space and aliens in your art! Do you believe in aliens?
Bangerooo: Yes! I think it’s absolutely impossible that alien life doesn’t exist in the massive universe that our tiny planet inhabits.
4.) Emmy: You incorporate popular pop culture cartoons like the Simpsons, bugs bunny, Kermit and of course your popular illustration of Friends! A lot of them are smoking weed! What inspired you to illustrate these dope creations?
Bangerooo: I am often inspired by marijuana usage, as I find cannabis pushes my creative limits and I also am often inspired with ideas while under its influence. I have always been inspired by Lisa Simpson from a young age. I imagine that in reality, she’s a badass bitch who doesn’t need any man (lol)
5.) Emmy: You have a large following on Instagram, did you find you got your following quite quickly after launching your art?
Bangerooo: No, it took me roughly a year to hit 1,000 followers. I think my following grew as my artistic talents grew. I never thought that I would be where I am now (67K+) when I started. I’ve was never motivated by likes/follows and just created art purely because it brought me joy.
The volume of people I reach with my creations floors me every single time I post. I feel very blessed to have this platform.
6.) Emmy: What’s the process like when illustrating one of your creations?
Bangerooo: I use an iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil and the app Procreate to create my illustrations.
Usually, before I begin I have a vision in my head and making it is like capturing my imagination into a tangible form. I typically start off with a sketch, then I refine it and make an outline and add color then lastly, add detail like shading and highlight, etc.
7.) Emmy: What are the main challenges in your own creative journey as an artist?
Bangerooo: I never set out to be an artist. It just happened. I’m thrilled about it of course, and I’m often excited as to where it may take me on this journey that is life.
The biggest challenge for me as an artist has been the uncredited use of my art by other social media accounts. May 19th, 2018 was the first time a large account (500K+) posted my work uncredited. I cried for hours. Now, my art is reposted all over the internet every single day without credit – I’ve built up a thick skin against it and it doesn’t bother me as much anymore, but it is disheartening to know that pieces of my brain are strewn across the internet by people who have no respect for the original creator.
As a full-time artist, I rely on my Instagram account to EAT. So when other accounts post my work without credit they are simply stealing money out of my pocket.
8.) Emmy: You have prints, RAD stickers and I hear you’re about to drop a clothing line soon! Where can people follow you to keep updated and get their paws on some of your iconic work?
Bangerooo: You can follow me on…
