Interview with Vilija Vitkute:
1.) Vilija, how long have you been an artist?
I made a big wish to become a true artist when I was already 5 years old, it was my dream, my goal, my life purpose to become an artist and do what I love, create what inspires me and others, can make a change, and move people. It was and is the best language I can speak through my art to make people understand and feel me in its true way.
I lived in Lithuania in art school for more than 17 years of my life, my Mother was a piano teacher there and we had a small apartment connected to art school where we lived and learned about arts and life.
After all, I kept on my promise and became an artist. As a professional artist, I have worked since I was 18 years old. I moved to Sweden then and was recognized, appreciated for my art, talent and hard work. I earned lots of awards, culture prizes, media attention. I became a body-painter and started with film, performance work, this became my life and work. I travel around the world, I create with different performers, artist, choreographers, artist, musicians, and many interesting people, I grow as a person and artist.

2.) Your work seems quite spiritual, does this theme play a big part in your life and your work?
Yes, there is lots about spirituality in my work and deepness, things we can see with an eye, so I bring it to the surface, in its magic, illusion, beauty that my task as for artist to work about. Especially when it comes to body-painting. The human body, energy, and soul inspire me while creating, painting and has a huge impact on my work.

3.) Where do you get your inspiration from?
Mostly from nature, music, stories, travels, and people that inspire me.

4.) What are the main messages that you explore through your art?
The lost connection between nature and human which talks about climate crises, clear and unclear/disturbed minds.
Self-love, of who we truly are its self-expression and the way we look at our body. People are so tuff on them selfs about their body, specialty women. People take being naked very judgmentally, disgusted or as it is porn when it comes of being body-painted, I work about it to be well expressed so people understand it better, well and get inspired instead and more self-love.
Water theme, almost everything on earth is water or are depended, made with water, its transformation, importance, story, etc is a huge and wonderful subject I love working about since many years.
