“Sometimes in life, you have to take a step back in order to take a few steps forward”. – Shannon Romano (Modern Salon)
Beautiful, innovative, and fun would be the words I would describe this humble and ambitious artist who is making way for a new trend that is…hair art!
Meet Shannon Romano!
Shannon Romano is an incredible New York artist who has caught some attention by putting paint to the hair!
Romano has nearly two decades of salon experience and she knew it was time for a change. Therefore Romano decided to take control over her creativity by giving it the focus it deserves-and well the results have paid off!
Romano’s hair art can take time, with some pieces taking hours! Romano begins her creative process by coloring hair wefts, followed by washing and drying them. After they are dry she sews them onto a wig cap, then cuts the hair into the style she wants. Then Romano uses Mehron body paint and begins painting her magic freestyle which ends in stunning results!
Romano realizes that the hair she uses has a history and she respects that it has belonged to someone else before she does.
“By the time it gets to me and into my hands, I want it’s ending to be a good one. I want it to become beautiful. I want it to become my art”.
When I asked Romano what got her started with hair art she said ” The image below is actually the very first thing I ever painted on hair! It was late at night, on Christmas Day I believe. It was a make or break moment! I had this idea to paint on hair using body paint and I thought “ok well let’s see if this will actually work or not”! And it did! And the rest is history!
